Typical Classic Urodynamic Findings in SCI/MS 

  • The clinical expression should be clearly characterized but actual manifestation does not always follow the theoretical rule. However, it might be convenient to use this demarcation for clinical purposes.
  • Suprasacral lesion
    • Detrudor overactivity (previously, ‘detrusor hyperreflexia’)
    • smooth sphincter synnergia (with lesions below the sympathetic outflow) [VIDEO1 VIDEO2]
    • DSD (detrusor striated sphincter dyssynergia)
  • Sacral lesion
    • Detrusor underactivity or acontractile detrusor (previously, ‘detrusor areflexia’)
    • smooth sphincter synnergia
    • non-relaxing urethral sphincter obstrunction (previously, ‘fixed underactive or denervated striated sphincter’)
  • Infrasacral lesion
    • Detrusor underactivity or acontractile detrusor (previously, ‘detrusor areflexia’)
    • smooth sphincter synnergia
    • non-relaxing urethral sphincter obstrunction (previously, ‘fixed underactive or denervated striated sphincter’)
